Why New Jersey Camping is Underrated

Most people don't think "camping" when they think of New Jersey. That's exactly why it's one of the best-kept secrets in the Northeast.

You've got everything—from the Pine Barrens to the Delaware Water Gap—and way fewer crowds than you'd deal with upstate.

And honestly, that makes a huge difference.

Even better? If you go with a delivered camper, you skip all the annoying parts. No towing, no setup—just show up and start enjoying it.

Top Camping Spots We Recommend

Otter Lake Camp-Resort

Located in the Poconos (just over the NJ border), Otter Lake is one of our go-to spots.

The sites are spacious, the lake is great for families, and there's always something going on for kids. We've delivered here a bunch of times and it's always been a smooth experience.

Distance from High Bridge: About 1.5 hours

Driftstone Campground

Driftstone is quieter and a little more laid back.

If you're looking to unplug, go for walks, and not deal with a crowded campground, this is a great option. It feels a bit more "tucked away," which we like.

Distance from High Bridge: About 1.5 hours

Cheesequake State Park

This one surprises people.

It's right off the Parkway, but once you're inside, it doesn't feel like it at all. You get a mix of forest and coastal environments, which is pretty unique for NJ.

Sites go fast in the summer—definitely book early.

Distance from High Bridge: About 45 minutes

Round Valley Recreation Area

If you want something close and really scenic, this is one of the best spots in NJ.

The reservoir is beautiful, especially early in the morning. Good fishing too.

Simple, quiet, and easy.

Distance from High Bridge: About 30 minutes

What Makes a Good Camping Spot?

When we recommend places, we usually look for:

  • Enough space—so you're not packed in next to other campers
  • Clean, reliable facilities—especially if you're going with kids
  • A relaxed, family-friendly vibe
  • A setting that actually feels like you got away
  • Nothing complicated—just the stuff that makes a trip enjoyable.

Why a Camper Makes It Better

Tent camping is great—but a camper makes it way easier, especially for families.

  • No setup—we take care of everything
  • Real beds (this alone makes a huge difference)
  • Kitchen and bathroom—no late-night walks to the bathhouse
  • Climate control—hot or cold, you're comfortable
  • It just removes a lot of friction.
